Open the Garden Fountain Chest and Get the Ocarina
Quick answer
Repair the fountain with the bench key and frog-puzzle valve. Its four symbols open the red chest shown below, which holds bird food and a gate key. Feed the bird, then use its vertical four-symbol code on the bench cabinet to get the ocarina and white flower.

Follow the clues

Unlock and turn the fountain valve
In the fountain area, take the key from the bench. Use it on the water-box beside the fountain. Attach the valve to the exposed pipe and turn it. Take the cheese from the fountain and note the symbols shown there.
You’ll know it worked: Water flows and you have the fountain-symbol clue, cheese, and fountain key used on the water box.

Open the red chest
Return to the frog area and set the four red-chest buttons to the exact shapes pictured above, reading left to right. This is the clue exposed by the running fountain. Open the chest and take both the bird food and the gate key.
You’ll know it worked: The chest opens and gives you bird food and the gate key.

Get the bird’s symbol clue
Go to the birdhouse and place the bird food inside. When the bird appears, inspect its foot and remember the symbols and their order.
You’ll know it worked: The bird-foot symbols provide the code for the cabinet by the bench.

Collect the ocarina and flower
Return to the bench area. Use the bird-foot symbols, in order, on the cabinet at the bench. Take the ocarina and flower. Use the gate key from the chest to enter the next garden area; the ocarina is needed by the masked musician.

If you’re still stuck
The fountain box is locked.
The small key is on the bench in the fountain area. It opens the water-box where the valve is installed.
The red chest does not accept the code.
The clue is the set of symbols visible in the working fountain. Recheck that you repaired and turned the valve, then copy the symbols from that scene.
The bench cabinet code is unknown.
Feed the bird in its house and inspect the symbols on its foot. Enter those symbols in the same order on the cabinet.
